How Bruce Willis Got Me Drunk

If anything, I’m the opposite of a “movie guy”.

I realized it only after years of frustrating virtually everyone who’s ever tried to talk about any movie with me.

It floored me when I heard about people who plan movie-watching around holidays or even weather, like watching Halloween on Halloween or Indiana Jones only when you’re snowed in.

Movies are obviously about the adventure you take with the characters and the story that unravels slowly or quickly altogether at the end. I love a good movie as much as the next guy.

Once it’s done though…it’s done. Unless it’s something like Inception where I feel I need to re-examine something to better understand it; why go back and watch again?

That’s just my feelings.

Why then, am I averaging three Christmas movies every weekend this December?

I’m watching more Christmas movies this year than ever before because I wanted something new to look forward to doing by creating a new & fun traditions. My endgame is to hack my psyche into giddiness and sew the seeds of shared memories with my partner.

Interesting that traditions are not unlike rituals or habits where their meanings are often lost over time…

Military members don’t wear a coat of arms (& helmet whose visor requires lifting) yet still they swing their hands to their brows to salute one another.

Whether you’re checking for wallet, phone, & keys or gravitating instinctively toward the pantry when you pass through the kitchen, you, me, and the Pope all have our tendencies or ‘grooves’.

‘Grooves’ can obviously be neutral but they can also be harmful. I accidentally ranted about the absolute easiest habit you can establish that will guarantee weight loss on the latest episode of my podcast The BBQ Diet.

The ‘groove’ I’m setting now with ~1,100 minutes of streaming merriment this month will allow me to look forward to what we’ll watch next year, together; whether it’s classics or new-to-us.

Now for a revealing confession:

I’d never seen Die Hard until this year.

(1) On what planet is that NOT a Christmas Movie?, (2) I watched it while merrily mixing up my favorite holiday cocktail: eggnog.

Save me your grief on eggnog. If you haven’t had mine you don’t know how good (and dangerous) it can be.

Bruce Willis’ acting put me in a merry enough mood to mix up 1 more cocktail with my partner as we finished the 80’s classic. So thanks, Bruce.

Holiday traditions tend to add a few pounds to our midsections.

There’s no shame in that. Hell, it’s worth celebrating. How lucky are we to have the means to indulge and celebrate?

But what’s unforgivable would be remaining in feast mode after the celebration is over.

Be mindful of reverting back to standard operating procedures after the holidays go by this year. You’ll thank yourself when spring rolls around and they don’t have to roll you around with it.

P.S. It’s tough for some guys to get “back-on-track” after the holidays. If you want to get 2021 started on a trajectory of fat-loss, I can help:

Until next time, take care of it.
